This Mercedes-Benz 280 GE is a German delivery and was registered on 7 October 1980 to an entrepreneur from Eschelbronn (near Sinsheim).

I was not able to speak to him myself, as he is no longer alive. But I was able to talk to an employee of his company before it was closed down the year before last.

The employee confirmed to me that the first owner used the car mainly as a winter car and for hunting and did not drive it much. He said that the 39,000 km on the speedometer are most likely 139,000 km, but no more. The engine is the original first engine and the interior is original and in good condition.  However, there is no evidence of the mileage. The first owner had the car, according to his co-worker, probably into the 2000s.

According to the papers I have, the car was registered in Holland in 2006. The first German papers are unfortunately no longer there. I bought the car at the beginning of 2019 and had it approved by the TÜV here in Germany. It has an H-season number plate and is still registered.

Everything looked very good from the outside and the interior when I bought it. The body had already been repainted, sealing rubbers had been replaced and the usual rust spots had already been repaired. At first glance, the underbody was also in good condition, but I still had the underbody protection removed to have a look. In the end I decided to have the bodywork removed so that everything could be repaired properly.

I then had the underbody repaired as well as the usual problem areas on the frame outriggers and the shock absorber mounts renewed. In addition, I had various technical work done, such as new brake hoses and lines, new tyres, KE Jettronic adjustment, etc. I then had everything repaired downstairs.

Finally, I had everything sealed from underneath. After the work, the car was not driven on the road in winter and it was not taken off-road.

The interior is in beautiful condition. Seats, door panels etc are all original. The floor mat in the boot is new. The only things missing at the moment are the linings for the rear wheel arches and the interior linings on the B, C and D pillars.

Very early G-Classes in good condition are hard to find. Here it is additionally interesting that the car has the top engine, which is clearly superior in power to the other variants offered at that time and has e.g. almost 70 hp and 77% more power than the most powerful diesel in the 300 GD.
