BMW introduced the 327 in 1937, a sporty and very attractive two-seater convertible that for me is clearly one of the most beautiful BMWs of all time. It was the more comfortable sister model to the 328 sports car, but like the latter it was very advanced and it is still impressive today how well these pre-war designs drive.

Customers at the time were delighted with the design and the trade press also had high praise for the car. However, the basic 327 version with 55 hp (40kw) was not as lavishly powered as its sporty looks promised. For this reason, BMW followed up in 1938 with the 327/28, which had the more powerful engine of the 328 and with its 80 hp (59kw) was again sufficiently powered.

At 8,130 Reichsmarks, the 327/8 Cabriolet was considerably more expensive than the 328, which cost 7,400 Reichsmarks. The high price made the pleasure of driving a 327/28 Cabriolet very exclusive and so only 482 were produced.

This BMW 327/28 Cabriolet offered by us was delivered to the BMW dealer G. Bischof & Co. in Cologne on 01.09.1939.

According to the available documents, the complete restoration of the car was completed in 2010 and it is still in very good condition. The original engine was replaced over the decades by an unstamped replacement engine. The original unsynchronised gearbox has been swapped for the popular Volvo fully synchronised gearbox. This is a modification that was made to a large proportion of BMW 327s, 327/28s and 328s as it greatly improved drivability.

In recent years, the previous owners have also regularly invested in servicing the car. In 2016, extensive work totalling over €12,000 was carried out at a specialist garage in Hamburg and then a further service was carried out in 2018 at another specialist garage in Hamburg. The current owner also had the car serviced just under 100km ago in February 2021.

Valuation reports from August 2020 and November 2014 are available, both certifying the vehicle to be in a condition of 1-.

The car can be inspected by appointment at any time at our premises in 33415 Verl. A lifting platform is of course available for this purpose.
