The Ferrari 512 BB was introduced in 1976 as the successor to the 365 GT/4 BB. The designation Ferrari 512 referred to the 5.0 litre engine and the 12 cylinders, analogous to the racing sports car Ferrari 512S. Due to stricter emission standards in the USA, the carburettors still used in the 512 BB were replaced by mechanical intake manifold injection in 1981, whereby the 512 BB became the 512 BBi. The “i” stood for iniezione, Italian for injection. This reduced the maximum power somewhat by 15kw, but improved fuel consumption and exhaust emissions, and also improved starting behaviour.

Visually, the BBi was also modernised. The front bonnet now had ventilation grilles in body colour, the tyres were wider, there were new rear fog lights and parking lights, as well as a smaller front radiator grille.

This 512 BBi offered by us was delivered in October 1983 in Turin, Italy. The delivery colour was black, but as with many Ferraris, the car was probably repainted in the classic Ferrari red already in the 1980s. The beige interior is still original.

The odometer shows only 35,373 km, which is probably completely correct and is confirmed by the car’s well-documented maintenance history.

The official confirmation of the production data from Ferrari Classiche is available and confirms that the car still has its original engine and gearbox. Both therefore have “matching numbers”.

The car has been in Austria since at least the early 1990s and was sold from there, via a German dealer, to the current owner 13 years ago.

The original tool kit and jack are still present and the history can be traced through numerous maintenance receipts up to 1994.

The last routine maintenance of this 512 BBi was carried out by Autogarage Angemeier in November 2021 at a mileage of 35,373 km and cost a total of almost €8,000. The complete mechanical overhaul included the removal and cleaning of the engine, the adjustment of the valve clearance, the replacement of the timing belt and the tensioning pulleys as well as the replacement of the oil return hoses and various coolant hoses.
In addition, the clutch was overhauled, the gearbox oil was renewed and the air conditioning system was regassed. The brakes were then checked, the handbrake adjusted and the driver’s side window mechanism cleaned and lubricated.
A similar routine maintenance was carried out at Autogarage Angemeier in 2017.
The rear brake pads and brake fluid were changed in July 2012.
